Information for Students

The student services fee (SSF) is a compulsory non-tuition fee that is charged to students enrolled at Carey. The fee helps to fund additional quality student services that support learning. The funds received by Carey from the fee are ring-fenced, meaning they can only be spent on agreed student services.

Carey is committed to ensuring that students have a say in how their money is spent, working in partnership with the Carey Student Association (SASS) through its President. Consultation includes the types of services to be covered, level of fees, procurement of services and the authorisation of expenditure. A variety of methods including the student newsletter, community gatherings, Facebook and Moodle are utilised to seek feedback. Any feedback is considered before the fee is approved by the President.

The student services fee for a full-time equivalent student is $400 including GST. For part-time students, this is $50 per 15-credit course (or $100 per 30 credit course).

Details of the proposed types of service and of the income and projected expenditure from the SSF for 2026 are set out below.

The services provided have been determined upon the overall needs for the student community. Even if a particular student does not use all services available, they are liable to pay the fee to support the provision of these services. Students should be able to include the student services fee as part of a student loan, but we suggest checking with Study Link. If students withdraw from all courses within the tuition fee refund period the student services fee will be refunded in full.

A report on income and expenditure from the 2025 academic year is available below.

Consultation for 2026

The formal consultation period for 2026 concluded on 30 September. The consultation document explaining the process and recommendations is available below. One piece of feedback was received, indicating that an increase in the fees would not be welcome. No increase has been implemented for 2026.

The formal consultation period for 2027 will open on 1 September 2026.
