Vibrant and caring community

Here at Carey we are committed to the notion of ako—being a learning community together, and building a diverse and intercultural community that supports, nurtures and facilitates transformative learning. With our Baptist whakapapa, we expect to encounter Christ in the gathered community. We make space for relationship and conversation.

We encourage any distance students to participate in the range of community events we host. You are welcome to come by the campus and attend a class in person if you happen to be in Auckland.

Whare Karakia

Tuesday Karakia

Central to our weekly life is our Tuesday Karakia service (11.15am during semester), where the Carey whānau worship together in creative and transformational ways. Speakers include Carey staff as well as leaders from throughout Aotearoa, Australia, and beyond. Karakia is recorded and made available on CareyOnline so our all our students can enjoy the content from anywhere.

Community Lunches

Carey students and staff come together weekly for a shared meal in the wharekai. Lively conversation, fabulous food, and fellowship make these times memorable for all who attend. If you are at Carey regularly or if you are visiting for a block course, you are welcome to join us for any of these lunches.

Formation Groups

On Tuesday mornings we offer Formation Groups. These include our specialised training programme groups and a Formation Group that is open to all students who want, as part of their Carey experience, to journey more personally with others.

Student Support and Wellbeing

Student Association

The Carey Student Association (SASS) is a voluntary organisation for students, run by students. SASS prioritises building relationships and supporting students through events, activities and peer support.

SASS hosts its own Facebook group, which we encourage you to join.

Local Information

Transportation

Carey’s campus is nearest the Ellerslie train station. Using public transport is easiest with a pre-paid AT HOP card, which you can purchase from Auckland Transport at at.govt.nz.

Parking

Carey has a large carpark for students to use free of charge with a sticker ID that can be obtained from the library. An alternative entrance is located at the rear of campus off of Greenpark Road.

Eating Out

There are a range of affordable cafés and lunch bars along Great South Road within easy walking distance. There are also a range of supermarkets within a 15-20 minute radius of Carey.

Lockers

Carey has lockers available for students to use, and they are located in the library. Keys are available on the locker doors, and we ask that students return the keys at the end of the year.

Smokeing, Vaping, and Alcohol

Carey is a smoke-free, vape-free, and alcohol‑free institution.

At Carey we believe that the God of mission is at work in the world by the Spirit to renew people and places in Christ. Our calling is to equip Christian leaders with the convictions, competencies, and capacity to participate in that mission, bringing gospel renewal in churches and communities across Aotearoa and around the world.
