Watch a short welcome from Dr Christa McKirland, Dean of Faculty.
What Can I Study?
The fist place to start is understanding what programmes are on offer. Carey offers a range of undergraduate programmes at level 4, 5 (first year uni), and 7 (bachelor’s degree) on the NZQA framework, and also has postgraduate programmes (levels 8 and 9, Masters). Browse the relevant programme prosectus for more information about each programme.
How Can I Study?
When you study at Carey, you have a range of study option and modes of engaging with courses. You can choose to come on campus (Penrose) and study face to face, or you can join the class live online via video link for the scheduled classes. Alternatively, if you schedule doesn’t allow joining live in either of these two ways, you can access the recorded classes as a regional/distance student.
All undergraduate courses are semester-based, and are taught either through weekly classes (classroom or online), or in block mode. Block mode allows students to come on campus for smaller intensives (from two to five days). Some courses are practical field based education, meaning that you can learn “on-the-job” in your church or community-based ministry contexts.
Our postgraduate courses run for the whole year and are taught as block intensives over a few days. This means that, outside those short windows, you have flexibility as to when and where you study, fitting it in around the demands of your life, or your ministry calendar.
For most programmes, you can also choose to study full-time (four 15-credit courses per semester) or part-time taking one or more courses per semester depending on how much time you are able to commit. Choose the approach that best fits your situation.

What Courses are on Offer?
Once you have an idea of what programme you would like to study, you will likely want to know what courses are being offered, and when. Look at the timetable to see what courses are on offer.
You can also take a look at our course schedule to get an idea of when we plan to offer courses in the future.
