Bio
Amanda began her working life as a secondary school teacher, teaching English and Social Sciences. She found her students particularly enjoyed inquiry learning and researching the things they were most curious and passionate about. That led her to school librarianship โ she believes the library is original place of personalised learning.
Amanda wants all students and staff at Carey to see the Ayson Clifford Library as their own, somewhere they can seek knowledge, ask questions, create and share their understandings.
She has a deep commitment to learning and learner development. Throughout her career she has worked alongside students, teachers, and educational leaders to strengthen information literacy, academic support, teaching practice, and student success.
โI aspire to work at Carey in the way described by Joseph Daniels when he was speaking about education and libraries. He said, โI think that we need a teachers’ librarian as well as a children’s librarian, and we shall not stop there. We need a father’s librarian and a mother’s librarian that we may enter into the complete service of education and, somehow, get this message of enthusiasm to them, that they may feel that this great plan of education is of the heart, from the heart to the heart. There are yet others, each waiting for their librarian.โ
To work in this way encompasses all that I hope to bring to Student Support and the Library. I love Careyโs vision to equip Christian leaders to be at work in the world, led by the Spirit, bringing gospel renewal to Aotearoa and beyond.โ
