Pastoral Leadership Training

This specialised programme is strategically designed to prepare effective Pastoral Leaders – could this be you?

The Diploma of Pastoral Leadership is an exciting programme designed to form you for mission and ministry. Throughout a three-year process, students are challenged and developed theologically, spiritually and practically. Our training has a specific focus on building resilience, relational intelligence and contextual pastoral leadership skills.

Alongside your Carey studies in Applied Theology you will join a supportive leadership cohort with whom you will reflect on your own mission and ministry practice. Rich partnerships with local churches and experienced practitioners provide you with multiple real life learning contexts. Pastoral leadership training is about investing in your calling to church leadership, preparing you to make a difference wherever God calls.

The programme is now offered by distance, from anywhere in New Zealand, and on-site.

Student Story

Josh Irving

Theological study and Pastoral Leadership training have together deepened my conviction that while all ministry is God’s, I’m able to participate in God’s work by faithfully responding to context, gifting, and my sense of call.

Carey has enabled me to explore all of these with support from a diverse and intimate cohort, and I’ve acquire skills in congregational leadership, preaching and pastoral care that will help me to express my faith truthfully and lovingly wherever God leads me.”
