This is an NZQA qualification (subject to approval). These courses can be cross-credited to other Carey NZQA qualifications if the student decides to continue on with study at Carey.

The Discovery Internship Programme is made up of these Courses:

Discovery Day and Foundations of Youth Ministry ( 2 x Onsite Block courses)
Mission of God (Online Distance)
Contextual Theological Praxis (Practical Interning)

This is usually completed in one year.

Discovery Day & Foundations of Youth Ministry

Taught in two block courses in Auckland the Discovery Day & Foundations of Youth Ministry will introduce you to ideas and practices that are fundamental to youth ministry in Aotearoa New Zealand.

You’ll begin the journey of thinking theologically, sociologically, and philosophically about youth ministry, develop practical skills for ministry with youth, as well as engaging with a range of recent scholarship that highlights various approaches to, and ethos of youth ministry.

Dates:
Part One – 7 – 9 March 2019

Part Two 16 – 18 May 2019

More information can be found in the Carey Timetable

Discovery Retreat

The Discovery Retreat is an opportunity to touch base, learn some more about ministry, and to reflect on your year. You’ll also spend some time with your Mission of God lecturer (George Wieland).

The retreat is normally held in Auckland.

Date: 16 – 18 August 2019

Supporting

Alongside your intentional ministry and leadership development and tertiary level study in Bible & Theology, Mission and Ministry you’ll also receive:

Ministry Leader Recommendation

Heather Ameye-Bevers

National Ministry Development coordinator, Baptist Youth Ministries

The great thing about this internship is it fits the needs of the intern and the church, allowing for part time youth ministry, part time work and part time study.

I would definitely recommend this for young people with leadership potential to serve and learn for one year in their local youth ministry
