Sports Chaplaincy

Specialisation within the New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies

Is supporting and mentoring sports men and women in your blood? Combine your passion for the game and the people with a stronger and more robust theological foundation with the new Sports Chaplaincy specialisation. Equip yourself to be able to better navigate the complexities of pastoral care within your current and emerging sporting context.

You will be awarded the NZQA accredited New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies with a focus on sports chaplaincy. The Certificate is specifically designed as the perfect starting point for those in ministry who would like to gain an initial theological qualification. In addition to practical placements and supervision within sports organisations and completing the Foundations of Sports Chaplaincy you’ll be able to choose a variety of courses including Introduction to Pastoral Care, Thinking Theologically, and Introduction to the New Testament.

Supporting – Supervision and mentoring by experienced practitioners, support and feedback through Carey’s well-established educational process, and journeying with others for mutual support and resourcing.

Sports Chaplain Recommendation

Grant Harris – Sports Chaplain for the Sky Sport NZ Breakers

“I’ve been journeying with the Breakers for ten years and my theological training at Carey has really helped equip me to navigate a complexity of situations with the professional basketballers. Without this foundation my chaplaincy skillset would have had some deficiencies.”
