COVID-19 – Carey @ Level 2.5

UPDATE – 14 September 2020

As you will no doubt be aware, the government today (Monday 14th September) announced that there would be no change to the Covid-19 Alert Level designation for Auckland and the rest of Aotearoa. This means that Auckland will stay at Alert Level 2.5 (with restrictions on social gatherings, funerals and tangihanga) until at least Wednesday the 23rd of September, with a review to take place by cabinet on Monday the 21st of September.

Under Alert Level 2.5, all on-site activities at tertiary educational organisation (TEO) facilities can occur as TEOs are exempt from these extra restrictions. However the number one priority remains the welfare of staff and students, and ensuring that you all remain safe and well during this time. The Ministry of Health website contains a useful range of mental health and wellbeing resources you might find helpful, they can be found here.

Consequently, the management team at Carey have determined that:

  • Regular timetabled classes will resume on campus (face to face) from Monday 21st September. Class furniture will be arranged to maintain physical distancing of at least 1 m as per MoH guidelines for Tertiary Educational Organisations. If you feel uncomfortable attending classes on site, please notify your class teacher and Neroli ([email protected]) to make arrangements to continue studying remotely and to access class resources online.
  • Zoom classes will resume as per the published timetable (available here on CareyOnline). Please note, the 21st September is semester week 10 (even week).
  • Tuesday Chapel and community lunches will NOT resume at this point. We will review this decision after the announcement on the 21st September.
  • The wearing of masks whilst on campus (and in classes) is strongly recommended. Please use the hand sanitiser provided on campus.
  • Contact tracing information will be collected for students and staff. When coming on campus, please both sign in (and out) via the tablet at reception, and also register your visit via the Covid Tracer App by scanning the Covid Tracer QR code which is placed on the doors around campus.
  • The library will remain open. Please observe physical distancing guidelines.

As per Ministry of Health guidelines, students and staff should remain at home if they are sick, have any Covid-19 symptoms, are in isolation, or are awaiting Covid-19 test results. Clearly the situation can change rapidly. Please refer to CareyOnline for any important updates relating to Covid-19 and the teaching situation.

If you have any concerns of questions please get in touch with Neroli Hollis or Rob Ayres ([email protected]). Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenging times.

Take care, look out for each other over the coming weeks, and above all else remember that “He will watch over your life, the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore” Ps 121:7b-8.
