Here at Carey we have developed several important initiatives and projects which we believe will be crucial, not just for ensuring that we continue to deliver our programmes to the highest standards, but also for strategically addressing the training needs of churches in the future. But we need help to resource the journey!

Pastoral Leadership

Housing Grants

Many of our pastoral leadership students are mature students with families, like Julie Redwood. Julie and her husband, with their three teenagers, moved from Nelson to Auckland to pursue pastoral leadership training.

The cost of living in Auckland is making it increasingly difficult for students to move to Carey.

And even students who do not have to relocate are finding it difficult to study while living in Auckland.

Bicultural Journey

Carey is committed to operating with a bicultural focus whilst also acknowledging New Zealand’s growing multiculturalism.

Kaiārahi Rangahau Māori (Full-time Position)

This is position is central to Carey’s bi-cultural journey. Dr Sandy Kerr (Ngāti Hauā, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Raukawa) is Carey’s Maori guide, counsellor, and research supervisor. Her position is currently 0.6, but the need is for a full-time role.

Ethnic Ministry Training

New Zealand is becoming increasingly multi-cultural, particularly in Auckland where 39% of the population was born overseas, making it one of the most diverse cities in the world. The fastest growing churches in New Zealand are now immigrant churches, with leaders who often have little or no theological education and very limited English.

Through this programme Carey is making a very strategic investment in these leaders.

Part-time Administration is required to keep this programme running efficiently.
