Mid semester break

From 30 August- 17 September the college is in its mid semester break which means no classes nor usual formation activities. This gives staff and students alike a break and an opportunity to focus more specifically on marking or assessment completion.

Commendation

This week (25-26 August), the final year Pastoral Leadership students spend time with the Baptist Union consultants as they go through Commendation in preparation for finishing their training and beginning the process of finding appropriate pastoral roles for them. Please pray for them, their families and those of the Union as they meet together.

Art Week

The week of 2-6 August is Carey's annual Art Week. This is an opportunity for the community to showcase something of their own creativity as we display various artworks around the college, including distance students electronically. Plus we've had a creative worship experience in our weekly worship timeslot, facilitated by Peter Majendie from Christchurch. It's always fascinating and inspiring to see what different individuals come up with and to simply celebrate the talent that God has given people. Roll on 2011! Semester Two begins

The second half of the year has begun with a wide range of students with us all over the country and beyond. Some big course numbers will keep markers busy as the assessments pick up in a few weeks time! But we look forward to what this half of the year brings.

In mid April 2010, Dr. Charles Ringma from Australia was invited to teach a block course on 'Themes in a Missional Spirituality".

End of Semester One

All teaching for Semester One is now complete! A further 10 days for final assessments and study and we officially finish this half of 2010 on 25 June. Hard to believe really!

second half up and running!

The second half of Semester One is underway - a slightly longer than usual second half due to Easter falling where it did. We had two great block courses during the break with Dr. Charles Ringma from Australia, teaching 'Themes in a Missional Spirituality' with ~60 in the course and with Dr. Thomas Leung from Canada, teaching 'Cross-Cultural Studies' in the Chinese Programme with ~43 attending. Good courses, good participation.

Mid semester break

From 1-23 April Carey is on a break from the usual classes and formational activities. However college is open as usual and the library is the place to be as the assessments are churned out!

Nearly half way!

Today is the end of Week 4 of the semester and we have just one week until Easter and the mid semester break. It's gone very quickly and with the realities of the academic year starting to be felt, we are well into the swing of things. It's been a positive start to the year with a sustained buzz of activity and community around the place!

It's a been a full and fun week with the academic year officially underway. All students whether distance or onsite have now started their study. There is a buzz around the campus as people meet new people or reconnect after the summer months away. May it continue!

Ten new Intermission students started at Carey yesterday and we're thrilled to have them with us. These 17-19 year olds come from a range of places in the country and will be here for one year as they explore discipleship, mission, bible and ministry.

New staff members

We're pleased to welcome John Tucker to the staff team. On 1 February John started as Director of Ministry Training, overseeing the beyond-classroom and formational aspects of the training of pastors.

We also welcome Sam Kilpatrick! Sam will spend one day a week working with the Intermission students in their practical/applied community work. Sam is a Carey Pastoral Leadership graduate and has recently been apppointed as the Youth Pastor at Eastview Baptist Church in Auckland.
