Modes of Study

There are several modes of study - this is how flexibility is achieved.
Carey Baptist College strives to offer study to students in a way that is as accessible as possible.  To achieve this, courses are available to students using a variety of delivery modes. Students are encouraged to choose a combination of delivery modes to suit their particular needs.

Currently the following modes of delivery are used:

On-Site Classes

A variety of courses are offered at our campus in Penrose (Auckland).  These are timetabled in weekly 3-hour classes lasting through the 12-week semester.  A variety of these courses are also offered as evening classes making them accessible for students in full-time employment.

Distance Courses

Many courses that Carey offers are available by distance learning.  Distance study means that students can be located anywhere around New Zealand or the world but still study at Carey.  Distance courses are provided using printed workbooks and enhanced with internet learning.

Block Courses

A number of courses are offered by means of block or intensive courses.  These courses are held both at the Auckland campus (usually as two blocks of two or three days) and at various locations throughout New Zealand (usually as a five day block).  In addition to attending the teaching blocks, students must complete extra reading and assessments in a 'distance' format to the equivalent of a full semester course (approx 100 hours over the semester).

Field Education

A number of courses are practical based field education courses.  The requirements of these courses are completed in the student’s local place of ministry under the guidance of a nominated supervisor.

Full-Time Study

Students can study towards any Carey qualification as a full-time student.  Full-time study allows students to combine on-site classes, distance and block courses to provide a highly customisable study programme to suit their individual needs.  Many full-time students are also eligible to receive student allowance.

Part-Time Study

Students can study towards any of the qualifications that Carey offers as a part-time student. Part-time study enables students to combine study with other commitments such as employment, family and church life.  Part-time students can combine on-site classes, distance and block courses to give a study programme to meet their own needs.
