Church in NZ Society
Brief description of course
This course explores the interface of the social sciences and theology as they relate to New Zealand society and the church. An introduction to the indigenous social issues facing New Zealanders today is complemented with a consideration of the impact of features from the emerging global worldview. Each issue will be framed within a biblical/theological/historical perspective before an engagement with the various ecclesial responses takes place.
(a) The relationship between the social sciences, theology and mission.
(b) Characteristics of New Zealand society – specifically politics, class, money, work, race, religion, sex, and gender – and responses which the church makes.
(c) Biblical paradigms that facilitates dialogue on church and society.
(d) Ecclesial responses to sociological realities – both indigenous and global.
