Principles of Counselling


Brief description of the course

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the theory and basic skills of counselling within a Christian framework. This will involve an exploration of:

•    the theological and biblical foundations of Christian counselling.

•    the psychological underpinnings of counselling.

•    self-awareness, self-care, and supervision for counsellors

•    the counselling process and the skills involved in it such as learning to listen effectively, empathise, ask empowering questions, and facilitate change.

•    a number of common counselling issues (e.g., interpersonal, identity, and family issues) and appropriate responses to these issues.
