Policy
General collection books may be borrowed for 28 days, or a shorter period set if item is in high demand.
Borrowed books may be recalled.
Recalled books will incur a $5 fine if not returned promptly.
Books may be renewed twice if not reserved by another borrower. Renew books online before the due date.
On site borrowers should present their ID cards in order to borrow items.

Quick Reference Guide
From the library home page:
Search - For a Basic search, type in the search box general terms such as key topic or title words, author surname, or a combination of these. Enter/ Go.
Advanced searching is also available as an option from the drop down box.
Reserve a loanable item by first logging in*, then doing your search. Select required item(s) from the search results list by ticking box(es) on left. Click Reserve button. On next screen, click Reserve icon.
Renew items already on loan to you. Login*. Select My Account on left of screen, then My Loans. Tick renew button to right of listed item, then Renew selected loans button. Or, select Renew all loans.
eBooks - Login*. Click Links on left of screen. Select eBooks. Click on title link, then on the web address URL link. Then click on eBook Full Text.
*Login at top right of library home page. ID Number = full barcode number on your ID/library borrowers card; Password = last four digits of this number.

New Zealand Libraries Catalogue - Union catalogue of library holdings throughout the country. Find which library has what.
Key Journal Databases
Here are links to full text journal articles and article indexes:
Religion & Philosophy Collection database (R&P) - this is a database of over 300 journals where the articles can be downloaded full text to your computer. To login, your 'Patron ID' is the full barcode on your Student ID / library borrowers card, and your 'Password' is the last four digits of your barcode number.
ProQuest Religion - a collection of over 120 journals, most available in full text, covering religious issues and perspectives, plus formal theological studies. Users accessing this database remotely should contact the library for username and password.
Religious & Theological Abstracts database (RTA) is an index of journal articles, searchable by keywords, bible citation, etc. To check if a journal is held in the library, open the Catalogue and select Quick Clicks, then Journal Lists. (RTA contains abstracts only, not the full text).
Distance Services
* Books and other loanable items sent out, with return postage enclosed
* PDF copies of articles from hardcopy journals or book chapters emailed, in accordance with Copyright Act 1994. (Also available to overseas students)
Who may use Distance Services?
Students who are currently enrolled in Carey courses and studying all their papers by distance, and those who live outside the Auckland urban area—defined as beyond Long Bay in the north, Papakura in the south, and Swanson/ Massey in the east.

The following collections are for reference use within the library only:
Reserve - Books in high demand for course work are put on Reserve by lecturers, with a status of ‘Closed Reserve’.
Reference - This section includes dictionaries, encyclopaedias, concordances and many other reference works relating to theology.
Journals - Latest issues on display stand. Back issues are shelved in bound or boxed format.
