(GradCertAppTheol) 60 credits
Carey’s Graduate Certificate of Applied Theology provides a programme for people who already have an existing undergraduate qualification desiring an initial theological qualification, those who have an existing undergraduate qualification studying for personal interest and those who have an existing undergraduate theological qualification wishing to gain extra skills and knowledge in a particular area of interest.
Programme Objectives
The programme produces graduates who:
• Use the tools of theology to evaluate other disciplines and their own experience.
• Examine current practice and apply learning in a particular area of interest.
• Develop their spiritual journey.
• Listen to others’ views, and have a world perspective.
Requirements for the Graduate Certificate
A student enrolled for the Graduate Certificate in Applied Theology will follow a course of study of the equivalent to one semester full-time and gain credits to the value of 60 including at least 45 credits completed at level 6 or above.
Entry Requirements
Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Applied Theology is restricted to students who have completed a recognised undergraduate degree programme or are able to demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate level. See the “Admission Regulations” for full details.
Pre-requisites and Co-requisites
A number of courses have prerequisite or co-requisite requirements. Normal prerequisites and co-requisite requirements do not apply for Graduate Certificate students, but students may need to do extra study to ensure that they have the skills necessary to succeed at higher levels.
Transfer from Other Programmes
Students who have completed courses at other institutions may be eligible for cross-credits. See the “General Regulations and Procedures” Section for full details of credit recognition policies. The awarding of the Graduate Certificate will nonetheless depend on meeting the minimum requirements for the Graduate Certificate.
Transfer to the Graduate Diploma
Normally students do not transfer from the Graduate Certificate to the Graduate Diploma. However, if students do intend to choose this option they need to ensure that the courses selected will enable this to occur. Students are advised to discuss their course selection with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies prior to enrolment.
