Gospels: John
Description
In this course we get beneath the
surface of one of the four Gospels (John). Why was it written in that
particular way? What are its distinctive emphases? What does it
contribute to our understanding of Jesus and the church’s faith, and
how does it speak to our own day?
Restriction: MB736 if the same topic has been completed.
Content
After
an introduction to John’s Gospel and methods of studying it, the first
half of the course is spent reading through the Gospel, surveying each
section and exegeting selected passages in greater detail. Having
gained an overview of its content and a sense of its distinctive
character, we shall then explore certain significant themes of this
Gospel and conclude with an evaluation of the message of John for his
world and a consideration of how it may be applied today.
Each
class will include a devotional/transformational element, an
expositional element, a scholarlary critic, and a missional
application.
