Prophets in Context

Purpose:
Students will learn to understand the prophets, and to relate their messages to today. This will be achieved by recognising literary features and the historical setting of passages from Old Testament prophets, and by situating the justice issues the prophets mention in the context of Ancient Israelite culture and socio-economic structures. They will also develop and apply skills of relating this understanding to contemporary issues.

Course Description:
This course will study the prophetic books of the Old Testament, in their settings in Ancient Israel and in the light of their Ancient Near Eastern context, with the goal of understanding their relevance for the contemporary world and their theological significance.


Prerequisites: MB530, MB533

Restriction: MB731 (offered at level 6 and 7)
