Spirit and Trinity
Explores Christian understandings of the Holy Trinity. Particular attention will be given to a study of the Holy Spirit – his identity and mission. The course will cover some of the biblical models, historical development, and contemporary articulations of these doctrines and finally consider some of the contemporary challenges the implications of such doctrines face.
The course will enable students to:
• Acquire a thorough knowledge of ruach and pneuma as used in the Old and New Testament.
• Recognize the development in the biblical and historical presentation of the Spirit.
• Identify some of the distinctive characteristics, emphases, and theological themes relating to pneumatology.
• Engage with current scholarship on pneumatology from a variety of theological perspectives.
• Begin to see how pneumatology impacts other loci of theology.
• Make use of the results of their study of pneumatology in considering issues of contemporary significance.
