Doke , Rev. J.J.

- bn Chudleigh, Devonshire 5 November 1861 d. Umtali, Southern Africa, 16 August 1913. Pastor and social activist. Churches (S.A.) Graaf Reinet 1882-86; (U.K.) Chudleigh 1886-94; (N.Z.) Oxford Tce 1894-1903; (S.A.) Grahamstown 1903-07; Johannesburg 1907-13. President N.Z. Union 1897. Doke had a very successful ministry at Oxford Tce. He took a particular stand on racial discrimination, once challenging the Christchurch Police on their mistreatment of some Chinese members of his congregation.
