Simpson , John Ewen
1906-1992. After commencing theological studies in Wellington in 1925, he became one of the inaugural students at N.Z. Baptist College in 1926. Baptist pastorates followed at Tauranga 1928-32; Colombo Street (Christchurch) 1932-36; Hanover Street (now Dunedin City) 1936-46; Hawera 1946-49; Napier 1949-55; Epsom 1955-58; and Wellington Central 1958-65. He was a key leader of the denomination in the mid-twentieth century. He was President of the Baptist Union, 1947-1948. Ref.: Obituary: NZB September 1992, 6.
